Security and Protection Training

Juvenile-Approach

The Institute provides the basic security officer training necessary to help obtain a Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC). Courses are offered to help students obtain the skills to become professional security officers or to brush up on existing knowledge and skills.

Basic Security Officer Course (20 hrs.)

Students learn from the pros all the skills necessary to become a security officer. Course content includes: search and seizure; the law of arrest, justifiable, unjustifiable and excessive use of force; deadly force; Illinois laws relating to private security; arrest and control techniques; fundamentals of report writing; fire prevention and safety issues; plus other necessary information for grasping the fundamentals of security and protection management.

Security Certification Course (40 hrs.)

Get the extensive training you need to succeed in the highly competitive world of security. This course helps you master all the skills covered in the 20-hour Basic Security Handgun Marksmanship course and the 20-hour Basic Security Officer course.

Firearm Training

Approaching

The Institute provides the basic firearm training necessary to obtain a Firearm Authorization Card. Our course offerings enable the student to acquire fundamental skills or build on existing skills.

Basic Security Handgun Course (20 hrs.)

Course content includes: the basics of ammunition and firearms nomenclature; firearm safety; forearm malfunction; legal ramification of firearm ownership and security operations; firearm maintenance; ethics of firearm ownership and use; and basic principles of marksmanship. To complete the course, students will qualify on the State of Illinois mandated firearm qualification course, at the marksman level.

Expert Shooting Course (20 hrs.)

The content for this advanced course includes: rapid-target acquisition; the principles of street shooting survival; rapid firearm presentation; pinpoint shot placement; firearm selection criteria; selection for firearm accessories; advanced firearm care and maintenance; legal ramifications of improper firearm use; rapid-fire shooting techniques; and opponent neutralization. To complete the course, students will be required to qualify at the Expert level.

Firearm Recertification/Update Course

These courses (for revolver, semi-automatic and shotgun) are designed for security personnel who are already state-certified and need to renew their credentials. Illinois firearm permit holders are required by state law to renew their permits every three years. This instructional, live-fire session enables the security professional to renew his/her TAN card. The course also covers new firearms laws, as well as information and reviews if new equipment and gear.
